Negrellisteg / Explorations Architecture

Paris based designers, Explorations Architecture, have recently won the international competition to design the Negrellisteg pedestrian walkway in downtown . For more images of the work and a brief explanation follow after the break.

, Flint&Neill and Arup Lighting have won the international competition to design the Negrellisteg crossing over the Hauptbahnhof railways in downtown . The international competition was held by the City of  with 12 shortlisted teams.
The Negrellisteg will link the Zollstrasse / Klingenstrasse area to the Europaallee development (approx. 300,000 sm of new buildings). The winning scheme is a monolithic continuous concrete structure including a pedestrian/cyclist crossing and two commercial buildings serving as access ramps.
With its iconic shape and innovative material, the Negrellisteg will be a new gateway for people entering the city by train. The 150m span will be constructed with ultra high performance concrete ‘voussoirs’. The thin shell ‘voussoirs’ will form a perforated tube which gives a sense of protection over the railway. At night, the tube will be lit from inside using dynamic color LEDs.
